Download Fedora 10
The folks at Fedora Project have released version 10 of the Linux distribution Fedora. The new version is available from this page via bittorrent for x86, x86_64, i686 and ppc systems. In the 10 series of the distro, the developers have improved webcam support and developed a new graphical boot system, among other things. In addition, Fedora 10 includes Gnome 2.24 and KDE 4.1.2 as a window manager and Gimp 2.6 as a drawing package. More information about Fedora 10 can be read in our preview. Posted below is a summary of the new features in the 10 release:
The following are important features for Fedora 10:
- Sharing wireless connections allows ad-hoc network sharing
- Better setup and use of printers through improved management tools
- Virtual memory provisioning for local and remote connections is now simplified
- SecTool is a new security check and intrusion detection system
- RPM 4.6 is a major innovation in the powerful, flexible software management libraries
A few other features in this release include:
- Click-free sound and better performance have been achieved by rewriting the PulseAudio sound server using timer-based audio scheduling
- Improved webcam support
- Better support for infrared remote control makes it easier to connect and work with in many applications
- The paths /usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin have been added to the PATH for common users to simplify command line administration tasks
- The online account service provides applications with credentials for online accounts listed on or stored in GConf
