A few days ago, version 1.3.0.0 beta of DVD Flick was released. DVD Flick is a so-called DVD authoring program, which makes it possible to easily convert a variety of movie formats into a DVD that can be played in the living room. For example, it supports container formats avi, mpg, mov, wmv, asf, flv and Matroska as well as codec formats such as XVid, DivX, wma wmv, mp3, Ogg Vorbis and H264. Furthermore, it is possible to add subtitles and with the beta of 1.3, a DVD menu can finally be made. Below you can read what has changed in version 1.3:

The main changes are:

  • Ability to generate menus based on templates. Only one template is included at the moment.
  • Better calculation of video size.
  • Mixed-mode DVD creation; for those DVD players that support both PAL and NTSC.
  • 23.976 video material is not converted up to 29.97 FPS but Telecine is applied instead. Better quality for the same bitrate price!
  • Faster subtitle rendering.
  • Interface font is now the Windows 2K\XP-standard Tahoma.
  • Some bigger internal changes that should be transparent to the everyday user.
  • tetris.

Changes since 7th October beta:

  • mosaic template.
  • Important bug fixes.
  • Subtitle improvements.
  • misc. other stuff.
  • Known issues: Faster and Fast encoding profiles do not use the faster scaling functions of FFMPEG because bilinear scaling seems to be broken for the moment. Should be fixed for final release. Normal and Best still work the same. Pan&scan also still does not work, do not use it.

Changes since September 30th beta:

  • Fixed menu generation.
  • Reverted TCMPlex.
  • Improved SSA and SRT subtitle parsing.
  • Fixed bug in subtitle charset selection.
  • Brought back audio bitrate setting.

Changes since the 23rd September beta:

  • Fixed bug where MPEG2 video was not copied.
  • A few more small bug fixes.
  • Fixed subtitle character set functionality.
  • Added “The Party” menu template.
  • SPUMux output is logged too now.
  • Updated menu preview window so all menu pages can be viewed.
  • Pan&scan option added, but does not work correctly yet.

Changes since the September 22 beta:

  • ISO writing and building is no longer verified.
  • A title’s filename is now used as the default title name.
  • Added option to enable\disable the menu being played automatically.
  • Updated default template (renamed to what it actually is too).
  • Fixed bug where the first title would always get played no matter which you selected from the menu.
  • Force subtitle is now named Display as default.
  • Added option to always enable the first subtitle under Project settings > Playback.

Changes since the September 15 beta:

  • Some menu files were still generated even when menus were disabled.
  • Saving or loading a project produced a crash.
  • Project title was not saved.
  • Creating chapters no longer results in an infinite loop when authoring the DVD.
  • AC3 audio streams are copied again when needed.
  • All added subtitle tracks no longer show at the same time.
  • Using MicroDVD subtitles caused incomplete encodes (up until the first subtitle).
  • Overscan border option adds top and bottom overscan bars again, now also of the proper size.
  • Encoding progress is better indicated.
  • Options to force audio channel output are back.
