Phyxion, no stranger to our own GoT, is developing a free alternative to Driver Cleaner Pro. That program, which nowadays goes by the name Driver Cleaner.NET, is only available in a paid form. The objective of both is the same: to help clean up the old drivers. When new drivers are released, it is advisable to remove the old versions first before performing an update. However, an uninstall does not always remove all files from the old driver. Using this program after the uninstall and reboot will not only remove any remaining files, but will also clean the registry, driver cache, and driver.cab.

Currently there is support for nVidia (video and cipset), ATi (video), Creative (sound) and Realtek (sound), and the software can be used on Windows 2000, XP and Vista in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. Also worth noting is that any donations will be forwarded to KiKa. Today version 0.4.1 of Driver Sweeper was released and its changelog shows the following changes:

Changes in version 0.4.1:

• Parameters aren’t case sensitive anymore.
• The parameters are now:
  • -NVIDIA
  • -NVIDIA Chipset
  • -ATi
  • -Creative
  • -Realtek
• Improved NVIDIA File Cleaning.
• Guru3D – Driver Cleaner has been renamed to Guru3D – Driver Sweeper (G3DDS).
• No log files will be created anymore if nothing is cleaned.
• Rewritten some code for Clean & Select box.
• Some layout fixes for main.
