Softland has released doPDF version 7.1 build 341. This program installs as a printer driver and makes it possible to easily create PDF documents from any program with a print function. The software is free for private and commercial use, does not require Ghostscript to do its job, and does not add any watermark or advertisement. Only in the screen for choosing the location to which the PDF document is to be written, there is an entry to novaPDF. That is a similar program with more extensive options from the same makers, but it is not free. From this release on, jpeg compression will be used again, as it was in version 6, because it produces a better result than the gzip used so far in version 7.

doPDF 7.1 build 341 was released it contains a single fix but an important one as it affects the size of the resulting PDF file. Basically starting with build 341 we’re switching back to the JPEG compression algorithm for images, the one that was used in version 6 and which proves to have a better quality/size ratio than the GZIP one (as reported by users here).
