Regular visitors to the Meuktracker are undoubtedly familiar with OpenTTD, an open source clone of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Another group of developers is working on a similar project for the game published by Bulfrog in 1997 Theme Hospital, in which the player must design and operate a hospital. As was the case with OpenTTD, the original game data files are needed to CorsixTH to be able to play.

CorsixTH is open source and available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The game can be played in a higher resolution than the original and is available in more translations. Almost all the features of the original are already there and new things are planned to be added. The fourth beta release of CorsixTH was released on Friday and the changelog for that release shows the following changes and improvements:

Gameplay

• Feature: The Research Department and research policy dialogue.
• Feature: The Operating Theatre.
• Feature: Not all parcels are owned by the player from the beginning, but can now be bought from the Town Map dialog.
• Feature: Calculate staff wages and properties for those for hire based on the level files.
• Added 7 new diseases related to the operating theatre.
• Added treatment room: Operating Theatre.
• Fix: The advisor no longer complains about watering of plants all the time.
• Fix: Some crashes related to crashed rooms has been fixed.

User Interface

• Feature: Possibility to choose difficulty level when starting a new game.
• Feature: Zooming (only when using DirectX or OpenGL).
• Feature: The Annual Report dialog.
• Feature: Lua Console for debugging
• Graphics: Improved the main menu background.
• Fix: Improved non-English keyboard layout handling.

• New languages: Finnish and Danish
• Fix: When playing the game in French it no longer crashes upon completion of a level.

Other

• A map editor is now available, which allows you to create your own maps.
