Download Cedega 4.4

TransGaming released a new version of the program Cedega a few days ago, previously better known as wineX† This is Microsoft’s proprietary implementation of Win32 Application Programming Interfaces (API) for the Linux platform, which makes it possible to play Windows games on various Linux distributions. The version number has since arrived at 4.4 and has been nicknamed “Raclette” by the developers. The release notes look like this:

TransGaming is pleased to announce the release of Cedega 4.4, dubbed Raclette, giving TransGamers access to more Windows games in Linux, with greater ease. TransGamers can now download Cedega 4.4 via Point2Play or in RPM, Debian and TGZ formats from the downloads section of TransGaming’s website.

Cedega 4.4 provides support for Guild Wars, as well as a number of improvements for Civilization III and StarCraft: Battlenet. Also included are several fixes to mouse cursor handling, as well as the recent OpenGL hotfix for World of WarCraft. These are all items that have received a high number of votes in the polls over the past several months.

New Features:

• TransGamers can now enjoy playing Guild Wars.
• The settler and diplomacy lines now show up in Civilization III.
• Improvements for the Battlenet screens in StarCraft and WarCraft II. Also a ShmServer race condition on startup, a deadlock when starting Battlenet, and the lag when disconnecting afterwards were eliminated.
• Resolved the issue with misaligned mouse pointers and other issues with incorrectly shown mouse cursors. This affects many titles, including Command and Conquer: Generals, EVE Online, Anarchy Online and Black & White.
• Improved support for WGL_ARB_pixel_format. This fix for OpenGL mode in World of WarCraft 1.5, which was previously released as a hotfix, is now available in a regular release.
• Fixed a compilation issue to ensure that all global functions end up in an executable code section. Previously this was not compatible with some of the newer FC3 kernels.
