With the program BetterJPEG you can perform simple edits on photos such as cropping, resizing and removing the so-called red-eye effect. Furthermore, the program can add the date and time the photo was taken, possibly with comments, in the photo. Most programs that edit jpeg files rewrite the entire file. This reduces the quality of the file, jpeg is a lossy format. However, BetterJPEG does this only with those areas that have actually been modified in the photo, but not with the rest of the photo. As a result, the quality of the file does not deteriorate further. Version 1.6.2.3 is recently available and features the following list of changes since the previous entry in the muck tracker:
