Alwil Software has released a new stable version of Avast Antivirus 6.0. The program is available in the free Avast Free Antivirus and the paid Avast Pro Antivirus versions. In addition, there is Avast Internet Security, which includes a firewall and anti-spam as extras. Version 6.0 includes improvements to the sandbox, a browser plugin called WebRep, which can indicate a website’s reputation, and SafeZone, a virtual environment for sensitive transactions. In the new release we don’t see any major changes, but mainly minor improvements and some bug fixes.

Here’s a list of most important changes:

• Script Shield now works with Google Chrome, all versions of Firefox and Acrobat Reader
• Improvements in WebRep plugins (especially IE)
• Stability improvements in aswSP.sys and the avast! sandbox
• File system shield: improved on-close scanning
• avast! Internet Security: new anti-spam engine
• Web Shield and Script Shield: more options in the UI
• Added in product avast! Market
• Various other security and stability related fixes
