Version 3.0.0 of aTunes has been released. This program written in Java allows audio files to be played and managed. It can handle mp3, ogg, wma, wav, flac, mp4, ra and rm, and is also capable of playing online radio stations. Furthermore, aTunes can rip CDs, edit tags and create playlists, and it has a navigator that makes it easy to find artists, albums or genres. An extensive overview of the possibilities of aTunes can be found in this wiki are being found. The most important improvements that we can find in version 3.0.0 are listed for you below:
aTunes 3
This version comes with a set of improvements and new features, most importante are these:
- New storage system for repository data, which allows a faster startup of application
- Separate text fields for search in navigator or play lists to make filtering easier
- Better integration with Mac OS X, including tray icons as in other operating systems
- New format to save play lists using relative paths, so they can be shared across several computers with aTunes
- Support for read and write song ratings to tags
Also I would like to thank all translators who have updated translations and people who contributed with patches:
- Allow truncate play lists when copying to device (deathgorepain)
- New options to organize artist view, using artist and / or album artist tag fields (Laurent Cathala)
- Similar Artist Mode (Laurent Cathala)
- New remote commands to control application from a telnet session (Radovan)
This version has some incompatibilities with previous versions so it’s recommended to save all your playlists before updating, then load it again with option “Load M3U” in playlist menu. Application will also reload all your repository to use the new store system.
