Red Chair Software just released version 8.8.2 of Anapod Explorer. This program is one of the better alternatives for managing the music collection on the iPod. The program integrates seamlessly into Windows and has an impressive list of opportunities† For example, it supports streaming to play your music directly from the iPod, there are extensive options for adjusting your playlists and it has a built-in web server so that the iPod can be accessed from a web browser. In addition, it has an embedded SQL database engine, which offers extensive search options and can generate reports in text, HTML or XML. Main improvement in this release is support for podcasts introduced in iTunes 4.9. The full changelog for this release looks like this:

New Features:

• Playlist items can now be reordered in batches in addition to one by one. To do so, simply use SHIFT or CONTROL to select multiple tracks, then drag and drop.
• Anapod now reads and transfers to the iPod any playcount and ratings information stored in the ID3 tags of MP3 files.

Enhancements and Bug Fixes:

• iTunes 4.9 Compatibility:
  This release makes further improvements to iTunes 4.9 compatibility. First, Anapod now properly preserves Podcasts that were transferred to the iPod by iTunes (they are not yet editable or updateable in Anapod; further podcast support still to come). Second, this release fixes a problem where album art transferred to the iPod by Anapod could sometimes get wiped out by iTunes. Finally, processing of playcounts and ratings have been fixed to be compatible with iTunes 4.9 and the latest iPod firmwares.
• Fixed date-based sorting for Last Modified and Added columns in Audio Tracks view.
• Improved detection of freshly formatted or restored iPod shuffles.
• Fixed problem with deleting playlists with duplicated names.
• Fixed various problems with handling ID3v2.4 tags.
• Homemade .m4b files no longer cause Anapod to warn about iTunes Music Store DRM christening.
