AlmostVPN is a Preference Panel for the Mac OS X platform that allows you to set up various ssh tunnels. It uses launchd to control these ssh tunnels and can import tunnel definitions from the programs SSH Tunnel Manager, SSH Agent, JellyfiSSH and SSHKeychain. Via the vpn connection you can easily mount remote volumes, control printers, or use vnc via an ssh tunnel. The developer has just released version 1.5.2 with the following list of changes:

Version 1.5.2:

• AVPN now allow passwords which contain “special” symbols (URL reserved)
• X11 forwarding works again
• per-server SOCKS proxy now work for multi-hope servers
• VNC connection works with VNC servers listening on “127.0.0.1”
• number of stability fixes

Version 1.5.1:

• Bug was fixed which prevented AVPN from “remembering” secure information (passwords, activation key) on “virgin” installs. This bug was introduced in 1.5 and affect only people who are installing AVPN for the very first time.

Version 1.5:

• Can connect through proxies which require user name/password for authenticaiton
• Now it is possible to extend list of Bonjour Services
• Can import passphrase protected identity files
• Can mount remote volume using passwords which contain “@”
• “Start to control” for VNC is working again
• This version is compatible with Leopard build 9A410
• Number of stability fixes
