The developers behind 7-Zip released a new alpha release of their open source archiving program on Thursday. 7-Zip can handle a variety of compression formats, including zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm, deb, and of course the proprietary 7z. Furthermore, the software is capable of opening iso files and Nsis installation packages. New in this release is the ability to calculate hash values ​​of files on the hard drive and extracting lzma files is slightly faster. In addition, more email clients are now supported in the compress-and-send option.
