The developers behind 7-Zip have released a new beta release of their open source archiving program. 7-Zip can handle a variety of compression formats, including zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm, deb, and of course the proprietary 7z. Furthermore, the software is capable of opening iso files and Nsis installation packages. 9.21 beta will include support for uefibios files and improvements in integration with 64bit operating systems included. Version 9.22 beta of 7-Zip is able to show progress in the taskbar button in Windows 7 and a problem with handling certain options has been fixed.

• 7-Zip now uses progress indicator displayed on a taskbar button under Windows 7.
• The BUG in 7-Zip 9.21 beta was fixed: 7-Zip could ignore some options when you created ZIP archives. For example, it could use ZipCrypto cipher instead of AES-256.
