Social network Path is acquired by Korean company
A South Korean company called Daum Kakao takes over the social network Path. That community now has 10 million active members. With the acquisition, Path hopes that it will attract people in Asian countries.
As a result of the acquisition, Path and the messaging application Path Talk will come into the hands of Daum Kakao. The social network itself announced this on its blog. Despite the new owner, Path promises that nothing will change for the time being: the social network will remain intact and the updates will continue to come. It has not been disclosed how much will be paid for the acquisition. Path hopes to grow with the new owner in Asia: by praising the social network there, the number of users should increase.
Daum Kakao is a South Korean company engaged in various business. It is similar to a web portal such as Yahoo: Daum Kakao offers e-mail, news, online purchases, but also social media. The company probably wants to strengthen itself in that area by purchasing Path. Just over ten years ago, South Koreans took over the then-popular search engine Lycos.
Path has been around since 2010 and has 10 million people who use the network at least once a month. There were previously rumors that Apple would be interested in a takeover, but it did not happen.
