Social network Gab appears online again
Gab is back online after several companies refused to provide any longer services to the social network last week. Among them was GoDaddy, but Gab has found a new domain name manager.
Domain name administrator Epik has accepted Gab’s registration, the company writes. That decision was not taken lightly, according to the company’s CEO, Robert W. Monster. According to the CEO, Gab founder Andrew Torba is doing something “brave”, referring to not only tolerating opposing views, but even welcoming them.
However, Monster points out that this attitude entails a great responsibility with regard to the monitoring and ‘light curation’ of content, in order to stay within the rules of the law. Epik does not state whether it has placed any further conditions on the provision of services to Gab.
That social network went offline last week after GoDaddy stopped providing domain services. Also PayPal, Medium, payment platform Stripe and hosting company Joyent no longer wanted to work with Gab, because according to them members spread hateful messages via the platform. The far right, in particular, has embraced Gab for allowing radical expressions.
