Qualcomm has introduced a new smartwatch chipset that brings some improvements. For example, the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 should last the battery a lot longer.

Compared to smartwatches with the older Snapdragon Wear 2100, the usage time would be four to twelve hours longer are, depending on factors such as the type of display, the capacity of the battery and the various possibilities of the smartwatch.

The Snapdragon Wear 3100, in combination with a battery of 450 mAh, would allow a usage time of about 15 hours with GPS and the heart rate monitor is continuously on. This is partly due to the new ‘Personalized Sports Experiences Mode’ in Wear OS. In the ‘Traditional Watch Mode’, with which you only use the clock, the battery lasts for a week.

Of course there are also other improvements, including the addition of 4G with a download speed of up to 1 Gbps and upload speed of 150 Mbps. The new chip is already in production and the first customers are Fossil Group, Louis Vuitton and Montblanc.
