Snapchat introduces new location sharing feature

Snapchat has made it possible to share the location with friends. That location will then be displayed on the Snap Map. It is also possible to request the location of others. Snap Map was released last year, but Snapchat was still criticized for privacy.

The new feature will be released via the Android and iOS versions of the Snapchat application. The necessary update of the application will be available in phases, a Snapchat spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch. After installing the update, there is a way to share the user’s location through the app. This can be done via an options menu at the relevant friend with whom the location should be shared.

At the same time, it is also possible to request a location from a friend. Once approved, the user’s location will remain visible for eight hours after the app was last opened, but it is also possible to manually turn off sharing. It is also possible to permanently ignore location questions from others in the options.

User locations are shown on the Snap Map. It came out last year and caused a lot of criticism. That was because of the way the location sharing worked: Snapchat didn’t mention that the user’s location is shared not only when a Snap is posted, but always when the app is opened.
