Snapchat is working on a feature that will allow users to add music to their posts. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company is in talks with several major record labels to make that happen.

Currently, it is not just possible for users to put music under photos and videos. To do this, they have to come up with all kinds of creative but clumsy detours. Snap, the company behind Snapchat, is said to be in talks with Universal Music, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music to give users the ability to choose which songs they want to place under their media, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the newspaper, the discussions are still in an early phase and it is far from certain whether the position will actually come. Sources tell the Wall Street Journal that Snap is feeling hounded by competitors who do have music licenses for their apps. Facebook has such a function, for example, in the Stories that users can put in the app or on Instagram or WhatsApp. Snapchat also has to deal with other competitors such as music app TikTok.
