Snail Games Introduces OBox Console and Android-Based Handheld
Snail Games showed off a new console and a new handheld at CES. The company from China runs both the OBox and the W3D on Android. Both devices are due to be released in China in Q2 2015 and would later be distributed to other countries.
The console, or the OBox, is controlled by a Tegra K1 processor from Nvidia, according to The Verge. However, Snail Games would like to deliver the console in various versions. The user should reportedly be given a choice of two different processors and four different storage sizes. The model with the smallest storage capacity will have a 500GB HDD, while a maximum of 4TB is present. Users should still be able to make hardware upgrades after purchase.
Slashgear further writes that 4GB of RAM is supplied as standard. Snail Games will also equip the OBox with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. Among other things, the console can connect to the internet via WiFi. The OBox must support both 3d video and images with a 4k resolution and finally a controller is included.
In addition, Snail Games presented the W3D. The handheld is a gaming-oriented smartphone that runs on Android, according to Gizmodo. The device has a screen diagonal of 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Snail Games has equipped the W3D with an MTK6595 processor in combination with 2GB of RAM. The phone also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and can also connect to 4G networks. The battery is said to have a capacity of 4000mAh.
The device is equipped with four buttons, two joysticks and another four buttons on the top. In addition to the touchscreen, the display of 3D images must also be supported without using external glasses. The W3D also comes with the eye tracking technology.
The OBox and the W3D should be released in China in Spring 2015. It is unclear whether the products will also come to Europe.
