Smart door opener Nello One threatens to stop working after maker bankrupt

Owners of the Nello One, a smart door opener that is linked to intercom systems, threaten to be left with an unnecessary device as of October 18. The creator of the openers is bankrupt and will close the Nello servers from that date.

The company behind the Nello One, Locumi Labs, informed customers last Wednesday that it will shut down Nello servers. That decision follows a bankruptcy filing by the Munich start-up in July. Locumi Labs informs customers that an eight-month search for an investor or buyer was unsuccessful.

Now that no party has been found to ‘invest in the further development and maintenance of Nello’, the plug is being pulled. This means that the keyless access, such as the Nello One offered, will no longer function from that moment on, unless a solution is found. Locumi Labs says it is working on that.

The Nello One allows users to remotely open their door with an app or have the door open automatically when they are in close proximity. The device that makes this possible must be linked to an existing intercom system. Users will probably have to open their doors again with an old-fashioned key. The other functions of the intercom will continue to function, Heise writes.
