Smaller version Sony PlayStation 4 will be released in September for 299 euros
Sony has officially announced the smaller version of the PlayStation 4. The console will be available from September 16 for a suggested retail price of 299 euros. Information about the new model is missing at the time of writing, but a lot has already leaked out before.
The little PlayStation 4 gets not a new name, it is a redesign of the current model and as far as possibilities go, nothing changes. The new model no longer has an optical output; the sound can now only be output via the hdmi connection.
Sony also supplies a new controller with the small PS4. The shape and layout of the buttons is unchanged, but a window has been made above the touchpad that can display the colored light of the built-in LEDs. With the original DualShock 4 controller, this is only visible on the back of the controller.
Like the original PlayStation 4, the new model comes in a basic version with a 500GB HDD. The suggested retail price is 299 euros. It is not yet known whether there will also be versions with a large HDD.
The announcement of the small PS4 comes as no surprise. Sony has not managed to keep the existence of the console a secret. In August, some people already managed to get hold of the console and therefore almost all information was already known. Among other things, a teardown appeared online, in which the inside of the console can be seen.
Simultaneously with the small PS4, Sony announced the PlayStation 4 Pro. That is a more powerful model, previously known under the code name PS4 Neo.
