Google’s self-driving car is involved in a collision for the first time that left minor injuries. Three Google employees had minor whiplash injuries. The collision was not due to the self-driving car, Google claims.

The collision happened at an intersection early this month, Chris Urmson of the Google self-driving car project writes on Medium. Although the traffic light was green, a line of cars stopped to prevent them from coming to a stop at the clogged intersection. Google’s self-driving car, the third in line, also stopped, but was then slammed into the rear by another car. That driver was distracted and not paying attention to traffic, so he collided with the Google car at 27 kilometers per hour.

Although it is not the first time that a self-driving car from Google has been involved in a collision, it is the first time that people have been injured. Three Google employees suffered minor whiplash injuries after the collision, the Chicago Tribune reported. However, after a visit to the hospital, they were able to return to work the next day. The inattentive driver also complained of pain in his back and neck. Also, the front bumper of his car fell off; the Google car was in better shape, with only some minor damage.

It is the 15th time that a self-driving car from Google has been involved in an accident. According to the search and advertising giant, this was never due to the self-driving car, but was always due to human errors. At first glance, Google’s self-driving cars are more likely to be involved in accidents than other cars, but according to Google, that’s because about half of the collisions go unreported. Also in the collisions with the self-driving cars, the police were never called in.
