Skyrim can also be played on PlayStation 5 at 60fps
Thanks to a modification of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the PlayStation platform, this game can now also be played on the PS5 at 60fps. This was previously possible on the Xbox Series X and S. The mod also works on the PS4, although it will not lead to optimal results there.
It is about the mod called Skyrim @ 60fps. This makes a frame rate of up to sixty images per second possible on both the PS5 and the PS4. The mod maintains the ability to earn trophies, provided no other mods are used. Trophies can be regarded as achievements from the game, in which the player must complete certain tasks, such as taking a fortress or joining certain groups.
The creator has made a video that shows gameplay footage in combination with the mod. The mod is selectable from a screen where multiple available mods are displayed, which works in a similar way on Xbox Series consoles. Although the mod also works on the PS4, the maker recommends using the 60fps option only on the PS5, as it can lead to reduced performance on the older console.
Since November, Skyrim can also be played with a maximum of 60fps on the Xbox Series X and S. This is also done on these consoles via a mod, called Uncap FPS. This removes the limit of 30fps in favor of a maximum of sixty frames per second. This works on the Series X in 4k resolution and on the Series S in 1080p resolution. The mod also works on the Xbox One X, but according to an analysis by Digital Foundry, the mod on this console only leads to a slightly increased frame rate that fluctuates between 33 and 43 fps, resulting in the necessary stuttering and tearing. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition has been part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription for the console since last month.
