Skype introduces translation technology that mimics voice during video calls
Skype introduces TruVoice, a translation technology in which artificial intelligence can not only translate a speaker’s words, but also imitate a speaker’s voice. This would lead to more natural video conversations between people who speak a different language.
TruVoice can according to Skype uses speech recognition and natural language processing to recognize which language is spoken during a video call, but also uses artificial intelligence to analyze the sound of certain words. After this analysis, the artificial voice can be adjusted to more closely resemble a speaker’s voice.
The technology is currently available in English, Spanish, French, German and Chinese. The feature is currently available in one-on-one calls, but will be coming to group video calls and phone calls in the coming months.
Earlier this week Skype announced also adds a visual boost to its mobile apps. The apps of the chat service received new icons, illustrations and themes. Group conversations can now contain up to 100 members and numerous bugs have reportedly been fixed.
