Skype introduces TruVoice, a translation technology where artificial intelligence can not only translate a speaker’s words, but also mimic a speaker’s voice. This would lead to more natural video conversations between people who speak a different language.

TruVoice can according to skype using speech recognition and natural language processing to recognize which language is being spoken during a video call, but also uses artificial intelligence to analyze the sound of certain words. After this analysis, the artificial voice can be adjusted to more closely resemble a speaker’s voice.

The technology is currently available in English, Spanish, French, German and Chinese. The feature is currently available in one-on-one calls, but will be coming to video group calls and phone calls over the next few months.

Earlier this week announced Skype also recommends a visual embellishment for its mobile apps. The apps of the chat service received new icons, illustrations and themes. Group conversations can now have up to 100 members and numerous bugs have reportedly been fixed.
