SK Hynix releases SSDs based on nand memory with 128 layers. According to the manufacturer, they are the first SSDs with such memory that are available to consumers. SK Hynix calls it ‘128-layer 4d-nand’, production of which started a year ago.

The introduction of the Gold P31 follows after SK Hynix released the Gold S31 SSDs a year ago. These were 2.5 “data SSDs, while the new Gold P31 series consists of pci-e 3.0-nvme models with an m2-2280 form factor. although the company again does not provide further details about this.

SK Hynix equips the new SSDs with tlc-nand memory that consists of 128 layers. According to the manufacturer, the maximum sequential read and write speeds come out at 3,500MB / s and 3,200MB / s, respectively. The manufacturer does not mention other details, such as iops.

The Gold P31 SSDs come in capacities of 500GB and 1TB. For the time being, the SSDs only seem to come out on the American market. Amazon’s US website lists the 500GB model for $ 75 and the 1TB model for $ 135.

Currently, most new SSDs use 96-layer nand memory. Several manufacturers have planned memory with more layers. For example, Intel wants to switch completely to 144-layer nand from next year and Samsung would be working on nand memory that consists of 160 layers.
