SK hynix begins mass production of 24GB Lpddr5x memory chips for smartphones
South Korean memory maker SK hynix has started mass production of its 24GB Lpddr5x memory chips. They are the first memory chips with such a capacity. The chips are intended for use in mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
SK hynix’s 24GB Lpddr5x modules are now being delivered to customers, writes the memory maker in a press release. The memory modules run at a voltage of 1.01 to 1.12V, which corresponds to the specifications of memory standards organization Jedec. According to SK hynix, the chips can process up to 68GB/s per second.
According to SK hynix, the chips are produced with an HKMG2 process, which uses a material with a high dielectric constant in the insulating layer in dram transistors. This should, among other things, prevent leakage currents and improve the capacitance of the transistors. HKMG2 thus reduces power consumption and increases speeds.
The 24GB DRAM chips will be used for the first time in the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, which was recently announced and will soon be released for the Chinese market. The chips are also expected to be used in other smartphones in the future, although SK hynix does not mention any concrete examples.
