‘Sixth director Uncharted film also leaves’

Sony’s ten-year-old Uncharted film has been further delayed. Director Travis Knight is not going ahead with the project, according to Deadline, because the schedule is getting stuck. He is already the sixth director not to get the job done.

The new problems surrounding the film would be due to actor Tom Holland’s busy schedule, Deadline reports. He will take on the role of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, but he is also committed to play Spider-Man. A new film in that series will be shot next summer.

Travis Knight was involved as a director on the Uncharted film for several months. He was hired after Dan Trachtenberg left the project last August. According to Deadline, Knight is leaving due to “planning difficulties.” The film would also be delayed as a result. The release was scheduled for December 18, 2020. It is not known whether Sony has a new director in mind.

Despite six directors leaving, Sony would not give up making the film. It will be the first production of Sony PlayStation Productions, the studio that was set up last year with the aim of filming games. Long before that, there were plans for an Uncharted movie; since 2009 several screenplays have been written.
