Siri founder: people will upload memories via artificial intelligence
In the future, people will store memories and make them searchable via artificial intelligence. So says Tom Gruber, one of the creators of Siri. Gruber sold Siri to Apple in 2010, which has used it on its devices for years.
Gruber said in his speech at the TED 2017 conference that he thinks people are going to use artificial intelligence to make their own weaknesses stronger. “We have a choice in how we use this technology,” Gruber said. “We can use artificial intelligence to compete with us or work with us, to overcome our limitations and help us do what we want, only better.”
For example, Gruber thinks it is inevitable that we will upload memories and use artificial intelligence to sort and make them searchable. The Siri founder thinks it can especially help people with Alzheimer’s to remember necessary things at the right time.
Gruber points out that privacy is important in this development. “We need to be able to choose what we do and don’t want to remember and what we keep. It’s absolutely essential that we keep this very safe.”
The Siri creator is not alone in thinking about this. Tesla founder Elon Musk released his new company working on a brain-computer interface last week. Facebook is also working on it: it wants users to be able to post updates by thinking.
