Silk Road 2 founder gets 5 years in prison
Thomas White, known by the pseudonym Dread Pirate Roberts 2, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison in the United Kingdom. He was the founder of Silk Road 2, a platform where, among other things, drugs were traded.
White was convicted by a court in Liverpool, UK, where a jury sentenced him to five years and four months in prison for his role in the online platform Silk Road 2. He was found guilty of drug trafficking, money laundering and more. of money, and taking lewd pictures of children, Motherboard knows.
One of the pieces of evidence in the case was the private portion of White’s pgp key. The authorities turned out to have gotten their hands on this and were able to link his identity to his online activity. White used that pgp key to send encrypted messages.
Silk Road 2 was created as a successor to the original Silk Road, which closed in 2013 and its founder was arrested. Shortly after, White started Silk Road 2, but a year later it was also taken offline. White had been out on bail since 2014.
The founder of the original Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht, was previously convicted in the United States. He has to go to jail for life, something that was also confirmed on appeal.
