Signify acquires WiZ Connected Wi-Fi lamp maker
Signify, the former Philips Lighting, has acquired Hong Kong-based French-based WiZ Connected. That is also a maker of smart lighting, and with the acquisition Signify is expanding its portfolio in the field of smart lamps.
Not only will the WiZ products retain their own way of communicating with base stations after the acquisition, but the WiZ Connected name and the names of the product lines and products will remain the same for the time being. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of this year, Signify said. An acquisition amount will not be disclosed.
Royal Philips had a majority stake in Philips Lighting until 2017, when it sold its shares. Subsequently, Philips Lighting decided to continue under the name Signify. It still produces smart home accessories called Philips Hue. In addition, the brands Interact, Modular Lighting Instruments and Luceplan also belong to Signify.
WiZ’s smarthome accessories can also be found in the Pricewatch and make up the majority of Wi-Fi-capable smarthome equipment, at least in terms of lighting.
