Signal tests payment with MobileCoin via new payment service in Signal Messenger
Signal announces the first beta test of its payment service. The payment service will use cryptocurrency MobileCoin. The payment service allows Signal Messenger users to send each other money.
In a blog post, Signals head of communications Jun Harada announces the beta. Initially, the service will only be available in the UK. Signal users can access the beta there and link their MobileCoin wallet to Signal.
The payment service is intended to exchange money with friends and family. The balance can be transferred from Signal to another app or service at any time according to the developer.
It does not come out of the blue that MobileCoin is used by Signal for a payment service on the platform. Signal founder Moxie Marlinspike has been involved with MobileCoin for some time.
