Signal introduces threading feature for Android app

Signal is introducing a new ‘thread’ feature where users can see all previous responses to a specific post in one list. The new function is currently only available for the Android version of the chat service.

Users could already respond directly to previous messages in Signal, such as in WhatsApp and iMessage. On the other hand, this can become confusing when, for example, several direct responses to different messages are given in a group conversation. Of the new feature Signal users in Android can click the text cloud next to a message when multiple direct responses have been given. Then a thread opens with only the relevant messages from that ‘sub-conversation’.

By the way, it is not possible to give a new response to the original message from this thread overview, so emphasizes Android Police. For the time being, the user must respond to the original message himself. It’s not clear if this feature will come to Signal at a later date. The chat service also does not disclose whether and when the threading function will be transferred to the iPhone and Windows version of Signal.

Update, 21.03: The message falsely claimed that users still had to search for thread source messages themselves. This is not right; one can go directly to the original message via the thread to respond to the message outside the thread screen.
