Sigma sd Quattro system camera will be on the market in July for 799 euros

Sigma Benelux has announced when and at what price the sd Quattro camera will be on the market. The variant with aps-c sensor will be available from July, when the version with a larger aps-h sensor will be released is not yet known.

The Sigma sd Quattro cameras were announced at the end of February, but it was not yet clear what they would cost. The version equipped with an aps-c sensor costs 799 euros, excluding the lens. There will also be a kit consisting of the camera and the Sigma 30 mm f/1.4 DC HSM, for a suggested retail price of EUR 1049.

Sigma uses multi-layer Foveon sensors for its cameras. The sd Quattro’s aps-c sensor has a resolution of 19.6 megapixels. Underneath are two layers of 4.9 megapixels each. Due to the multi-layered sensor design, the resolution is not directly comparable to cameras that have a traditional Bayer sensor. According to Sigma, the effective resolution of the sd Quattro is comparable to 39-megapixel cameras.

At the introduction, Sigma also showed the sd Quattro H, a variant with a slightly larger sensor. The top layer has a resolution of 25.5 megapixels and the two layers below that have a resolution of 7.5 megapixels. That should equate to 51-megapixel cameras with Bayer sensors. It is not yet clear when the sd Quattro H will appear on the market.

Sigma does, however, announce the price of its new reporting flash. The EF-630 has a suggested retail price of 399 euros and can be expanded for 69.50 euros with a USB dock, so that users can update the firmware of the flash themselves. The flash comes on the market with connections for Sigma, Canon and Nikon cameras. The Sigma variant will be available from the beginning of July.
