Sigma releases 11 lenses for Panasonic S1 and Leica SL cameras this year
Sigma will equip eleven of its Art lenses with the L mount, which is used on the Panasonic SR and Leica SL cameras. The manufacturer also comes with an adapter to use existing lenses with the Sigma SA and Canon EF mount on the L mount.
The eleven lenses that come out with an L-mount have all been released by Sigma for other camera systems. In all cases, they are lenses with a fixed focal length from the Art series, to which Sigma ranks its best lenses.
According to Sigma, the L-mount versions of the lenses provide fast autofocus and are fully compatible with the af-c mode, image stabilization and lens correction of cameras that use the L mount. Sigma has not yet announced what the new versions of the Art lenses will cost and when they will be released.
In addition to the new versions of the lenses, Sigma also comes with two versions of the MC-21 adapter. There will be a variant to use Sigma SA lenses on the L-mount and a version to put Canon EF lenses on that mount. The adapter transmits electronic information so that autofocus remains possible.
The lenses and adapter are suitable for all L-mount cameras. In September last year, Leica, Sigma and Panasonic announced that they were collaborating to release all cameras and lenses with those manufacturers. Leica already has an SL camera and Panasonic released the S1 and S1R cameras this year. Sigma also wants to release its own camera with a full-frame Foveon sensor later this year.
