Sigma announces 24-35mm f2 DG HSM Art
Sigma has announced a new wide-angle lens in the Art series with a range of 24-35mm. The lens with an aperture of f/2.0 throughout the zoom range is intended for full-frame cameras. The whole consists of 18 elements in 13 groups and weighs 940 grams.
The 82mm filter size lens is the long-awaited equivalent for 35mm sensors to the 18-35mm f/1.8 lens for aps-c cameras released two years ago. Sigma states that the lens with brightness f/2.0 should be an excellent replacement for a set of 24mm, 28mm and 35mm prime lenses. The lens will be available for Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts.
The whole is equipped with Sigma’s FDL glass and seven super-low-dispersion glass elements, two of which are aspherical. Even with a large aperture, the chromatic aberration and curvature should be minimal. The diaphragm itself consists of nine blades. The minimum focusing distance is 28cm with a maximum magnification of 1:4.4. The length of the lens itself is 122.7mm.
Various settings can be adjusted and the firmware can be updated via a USB dock. The lens can also be used on crop cameras, but then the 35mm range is equivalent to 36-52.5mm. A suggested retail price is likely to be announced in the course of next week.
