Sierra Online founders create a new game for the first time in 20 years
Sierra Online founders Roberta and Ken Williams are working on a new game for the first time in 20 years. The couple is working on a remake of the text-based adventure game Colossal Cave.
Roberta and Ken tell in a interview Learn more about the Colossal Cave remake with PC Gamer. The original is from 1976 and was created by Don Woods and Will Crowther when Sierra Online didn’t exist yet. Colossal Cave 3D is on there basedbut unlike the original does not contain only text.
In the game, players can explore a large underground cavern filled with dwarves, trolls, dragons and monsters. The two developers want it to be a game that is suitable for the whole family. The game must also be playable in VR. It is not yet clear when the game will be released.
Roberta and Ken started making a new game because they were bored during the lockdowns. The two have not been involved in game development for over twenty years. The couple founded the studio Sierra Online in 1979, which later became Sierra Entertainment and eventually merged into Activision Blizzard. The Williams couple have not been involved with the studio since the 90s.
