Shuttle introduces single-bay NAS with built-in WiFi hotspot
Shuttle has announced the Omninas KS10, a single-bay NAS that also integrates a Wi-Fi access point. According to the manufacturer, the nas has a low power consumption, but the Wi-Fi hotspot only offers 2.4GHz.
The Omninas KS10 runs on an 800MHz Marvell 88F6707-soc and 256MB DDR3 RAM. There is 1GB of flash storage and the device runs on an embedded Linux variant. Shuttle states that a 3.5″ drive of up to 4TB can be placed in the nas. For the Wi-Fi functionality, the 802.11n standard is used, which is single-band Wi-Fi at 2.4GHz.
In addition to two USB 2.0 connections, the NAS also offers a card reader. A gigabit Ethernet connection is available for communication with the fixed network. Shuttle cites read and write speeds of 80MB/s and 60MB/s respectively. The KS10 has no fan and the model consumes 5.8W in suspend mode; in active mode that is 11.9W, which does not include the consumption of the hdd. Apps are available for Android and iOS. The Ominas has a suggested retail price of 81 euros.
