Shuttle comes with passively cooled barebones Intel Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processor of the Broadwell generation. Previously, it released a system with Celeron processor based on the same housing. The suggested retail prices of the barebones are between 486 and 814 euros.

The barebones with type numbers DS57U3, DS57U5 and DS57U7, depending on the processor, have dimensions of 20 x 16.5 x 3.95 centimeters and are completely passively cooled. As a result, the PCs operate completely silently, according to Shuttle. The completely black steel housing, which was already used earlier this year for a PC with Intel Celeron 3205U CPU, can be hung on, for example, a monitor by means of a supplied vesa mount.

According to Shuttle, the systems are virtually maintenance-free and can be left on at all times. The company touts the devices as suitable for controlling digital signage and office use. They are equipped with two com ports plus a connector for an external power button to control the systems remotely. The displayport 1.2 connection on the back can output 4k images with a refresh rate of 60Hz, which should also make the devices suitable for multimedia applications.

As usual with a barebone, processor, motherboard, housing and power supply are already present; the user still has to add working and storage memory and an operating system. Shuttle installs an Intel Core i3 5005U, Intel Core i5 5200U or an Intel Core i7 5500U as CPU. All processors are dual-core low-voltage models from Intel’s latest Broadwell generation. The limited tdp of 7.5W or 10W in the case of the i7 should keep the heat and power consumption within limits.

The user can place a maximum of 16GB DDR3L memory divided over two strips. Space is kept free for a 2.5″ hard drive or SSD, and an MSATA SSD can be plugged into one of the mini PCI-e slots. The system has six USB ports on external connections, two of which are USB 3.0, hdmi1.4 and displayport 1.2, dual gigabit lan and an sd card reader, built-in wifi-n is also provided.

The systems are available now. The suggested retail price of the DS57U3 with Intel Core i3 processor is 486 euros, for the DS57U5 with Intel Core i5 CPU you have to pay 628 euros, while the DS57U7 with Intel Core i7 should cost 814 euros.
