Shovel Knight developer makes all assets available to everyone

Developer Yacht Club Games is making all the assets of the renowned retro platformer Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Edition available to everyone. The visual designs, animations and menus are freely accessible to hobbyists under a creative commons license.

Due to publishing the files under the Creative Commons 4.0 License In principle, anyone can use any shared Shovel Night files, provided the developer is credited and the project has no commercial intent. According to Yacht Club Games also unused and never released parts of Shovel Knight can be found in the roughly one gigabyte zip file. The company recommends interested parties to use Pro Motion NG to open the files. The program is specially designed for developers of pixel art projects.

Shovel Knight was released in 2014 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Initially, the platformer was only available for PC, Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Later, the game was released on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Shovel Knight was awarded a Game Award for best indie game, among other things. After the success of the original game, several expansions were released, including additional campaigns and a multiplayer mode. The Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove edition includes the base game and all expansions.
