Sharp showed a 2.87″ igzo screen with a pixel density of 1008ppi during the Ceatec fair in Japan. Two screens side by side can show 4k images for use in VR glasses. Sharp also showed a smartphone screen with thin bezels and curved edges.

Sharp shows a square 2.87″ screen and a round variant with a lens in front of it during the exhibition in Japan. The Japanese Watch visited the manufacturer. The pixel density of 1008ppi is higher than that of, for example, the 4k screen of the Sony Z5 Premium: That 5.5″ screen from Japan Display has a pixel density of 801ppi with its 3840×2160 resolution. Sharp’s LCD screen is of the igzo type, which has low consumption and allows thin screen edges. Today’s popular VR glasses use OLED panels, which offer better black reproduction.

During Ceatec, Sharp also showed a smartphone with an igzo screen, which is rounded along the edges. As a result, hardly any edges are visible on the top and sides. It was a 5.2″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. Sharp categorizes the screen among its line of free form displays. The manufacturer can produce the igzo screens in all kinds of shapes, such as dashboards for cars and round shapes for thermostats.
