Sharp Releases LX Series of LED Backlight HDTVs

Sharp has announced its Aquos series of LX televisions: the LCD TVs will appear on the market in four variants and can display images in HD resolution. The backlights are made of white LEDs, which should reduce the price somewhat.

The LX TVs from the well-known Aquos series will be available in variants with screen diagonals of 60″, 52″, 46″ and 40″, with the LCD screens equipped with Sharp’s UV2A technology. UV2A is an image-enhancing technique that should ensure high contrasts and low energy consumption. According to Sharp, the LCDs have a dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 and the screens have little trouble with backlight bleeding.

For the new LX TVs, Sharp has moved away from the RGB LEDs that provide the backlights in the XS1: the monochrome, white LEDs of the LX models should reduce the rather exorbitant prices of the XS1 series. The LX-HDTVThe cameras have light sensors that allow for automatic calibration of the screens. The sound in the 40″-LX is provided by five speakers, while in the larger models six speakers, also in 2.1-channel setup, are built-in. The televisions are equipped with video-on-demand functions and have network support on board.

The televisions are equipped with three HDMI ports, three composite and one S-video port, an analog D-sub VGA port and two scart ports and one audio input. An analog and two digital tuners provide the remaining television sources. The consumption depends on the size: the smallest model burns about 145W, while the 60″ model consumes 275W of power. In standby mode, all devices are satisfied with 0.1W.

The 60″ model from the LX series will be on sale in Japan from November, the other models will be on the market from mid-October. The smallest model should cost just under two thousand euros; the 46″ version goes for about 2700 euros over the counter, the 52″ LX costs just under 3500 euros and the largest television with 60 “diagonal will change hands for about 6200 euros.
