Sharp will release two models in the CQ1 line later this month. It concerns OLED TVs with a 4k resolution and image diagonals of 55 and 65 inches. For the time being, the televisions will only be released in Japan, the manufacturer’s home country.

The CQ1 OLED televisions run on Android TV and have four HDMI connections; probably version 2.0. There seems to be forward-facing speakers that sit in a thin bar at the bottom of the devices. According to the manufacturer, it is a 35W sound system with two tweeters, four midrange drivers and a subwoofer. The televisions support different HDR formats: HDR10, hybrid log-gamma and Dolby Vision.

Sharp has developed the Medalist S1 processor especially for these 4k televisions. According to the manufacturer, technology has been used that it previously applied to its 8k TVs to scale up the images. Furthermore, the maker reports that it has developed a technology called Sparkling Drive to increase the contrast between light and dark, and the brightness of an entirely bright screen. However, the value of the peak brightness of the televisions is not mentioned. Sharp says it also uses the so-called Smart Active Contrast algorithm to improve contrast.

The manufacturer will deliver the OLED televisions in Japan from May 23 for an unknown price. As far as is known, the manufacturer has not yet communicated any plans to market the televisions outside of Japan.
