Share Vodafone customers have been struggling with outages for hours – update
Vodafone customers complain that they cannot receive calls, send text messages or have no data connection. Vodafone suspects that 60,000 customers are affected by the connection problems, but is not sure of that number.
Vodafone customers have been complaining since early Tuesday morning that they cannot connect to the network. In some cases there is a connection to the network, but no data connection, or calls and texts cannot be made. The outage is not region specific, but not all customers are affected.
According to Vodafone spokesman Bart Bakker, the problems are caused by work on the network, which resulted in ‘some of the customers not being properly connected to the network.’
According to Bakker, 60,000 customers, about one percent of the number of Vodafone customers, have been affected. He says he cannot guarantee that, however, and the high number of complaints on social media seems to suggest that it is a bigger problem.
It is not yet known when the outage will be resolved. It was initially estimated that the issue would be resolved between 11:30 AM and 11:00 AM, but whether that will be achieved remains to be seen. In the meantime, some customers indicate that they had no problems this morning, but now they do; that seems to indicate that the problem is spreading.
On Monday, the provider indicated that it will separate the systems behind its 2G and 3G networks, so that the impact of failures in the future is smaller. In April, after a fire, a major failure occurred at the provider, with customers struggling for hours with problems.
Update, 11:18: The Vodafone problems have now been resolved, says spokesman Bakker. Customers are advised to reconnect their phone to the network, for example by turning it off and on again.
