Share of Twitter Blue subscribers will get ‘edit tweet’ button within a month

Twitter is testing an edit button. The feature should be available later this month for some users with a paid Twitter Blue subscription. To protect other users, edits will be limited and edit history will be made public.

Twitter writes that tweets can be edited ‘a few times in the first 30 minutes’. They then get an icon and a timestamp to signal what happened. Many users have been asking for the feature; at a poll posted by Elon Musk, nearly 74 percent of 4.4 million users voted for an editing feature.

The feature will be available first to users with Twitter Blue. This is a paid subscription that costs $4.99 per month and includes access to an undotweet function and folders for bookmarked tweets. The subscription is available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Blue users within one of those countries will be the first to receive the edit button within a month, according to Twitter. It is not clear whether the feature will eventually also come to users who do not have Twitter Blue.

Twitter also recently introduced Circles to all users. These are groups that a user composes himself, after which he or she can write a tweet that can only be read by that Circle. The feature is intended for messages that require more privacy than the usual tweets.
