Shadow of the Colossus creator is working on new project
Fumito Ueda, creator of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, is working on a new project with his studio genDesign. It will be a completely new IP, according to Ueda. It will be a game that will have the same scale as TLG.
The project is still in the prototype phase and has no official name yet. It is also not yet known for which platforms the game will be developed. In an interview with Famitsu, which was translated by Gematsu, Ueda says that the project is supported by Kowloon Nights. This is an international fund set up for small developers.
Last January, Ueda told Eurogamer that there were plans for a new game. The website asked a question about the image accompanying genDesign’s New Year’s greeting. It turned out to be related to a new project, but Ueda couldn’t tell much about it at the time.
Fumito Ueda was the director and lead designer for Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian. He left Sony in December 2011, but was still contractually obligated to complete his work for The Last Guardian. After the release of that game was delayed several times, the game came out on December 6, 2016. In February this year, a remake of Shadow of the Colossus was released for the PlayStation 4. The original appeared in 2006 for the PlayStation 2.
