Serious Sam 3: BFE runs on Linux
In response to reports earlier this week that Valve has not only Steam, but also Left 4 Dead 2 running on Linux, developer Croteam posted a screenshot of Serious Sam 3: Before First Encounter running on Ubuntu.
However, Croteam does not release much more than a screenshot. On the Facebook page from the Croatian studio is a shot of Serious Sam 3: Before First Encounter, with the only explanation: “Serious Sam 3: BFE – running on Linux!”
Been going there longer rumors that Croteam is working on a Linux version of the shooter, which came out for Windows in November. However, the studio has never announced that a Linux version is planned. Even now, the studio will not let go of whether a Linux version will actually come on the market and when it will be for sale. The studio also has a version for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in production. It is also unknown when the console versions will be available for sale. Croteam released a version for OS X in May.
Valve announced earlier this week that it will initially focus on Ubuntu 12.04 in its development of Steam for Linux. Valve already has the download platform running under Linux and expects to be able to start beta testing soon. The studio is also working on a Linux version of the shooter Left 4 Dead 2, which is already running on Ubuntu. Valve wants to bring more of its own games to Linux after L4D2.
