Sennheiser introduces the HD 660S2 headphones, which can be regarded as the successor to the almost identical-looking HD 660S. An important innovation is the increase in impedance. The new model will have a suggested retail price of 599 euros.

A striking innovation is the fact that the driver of the HD 660S2 has an impedance of 300 ohms, while the 660S has 150 ohms. As a result, the new model requires an amplifier with a high power even more than its predecessor. This makes the new model less suitable for use in combination with a laptop or smartphone, for example.

Sennheiser mentions an upgrade for audiophiles, the HD 660S2 says it has listened to feedback from the hi-fi community ‘creating a pair of headphones that strikes a successful balance between reference level detail and a compelling frequency response’. The 660S in turn is the successor to better-known headphones such as the HD600 and HD650.

The Sennheiser HD 660S2 can be pre-ordered from Wednesday and will be on sale from February 21.
