Seiko relaunches watch from Aliens movie
Seiko is releasing a new version of the timepiece Sigourney Weaver wears in Aliens. In the 1986 film ‘Ellen Ripley’ has a Seiko Chronograph 7A28-7000 on her wrist. That watch was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and appeared in 1983.
Although Aliens is set in a distant future, the makers didn’t just use futuristic-looking weapons and gadgets in the film. For example, the watch that Ripley was wearing was already for sale in stores at the time. This Seiko Chronograph 7A28-7000 is still popular thanks to its appearance in the film.
The Japanese watch manufacturer has now released two new variants of the watch, a stainless steel version and a black model. They are not exact copies of the 1983 movement, the new versions are equipped with a new analog 7T12 quartz movement and are missing the buttons on the left side of the case. The appearance and dimensions are otherwise identical to the original.
According to Seiko, the watches are water resistant to a depth of 100 meters and the battery lasts five years. The watches come on the market in a limited edition of three thousand pieces per model. The stainless steel model costs 32,000 Japanese yen, for the black version 36,000 yen has to be paid. Converted, those amounts are approximately 245 and 275 euros.
