Segway Robotics Announces Autonomous Delivery Robot
Segway Robotics presents the Loomo Delivery at the CES electronics show in Las Vegas. It is an autonomous delivery robot that takes care of the last part of the transport.
The Loomo Delivery is not the kind of delivery robot that you can expect at your front door in the foreseeable future. Segway Robotics developed the device mainly for office buildings, warehouses, shopping centers and the like. Think of the delivery of parcels and documents, but also packed lunches, for example. The robot is designed to maneuver autonomously through crowded environments, avoiding people and obstacles, and defying slopes of up to eight degrees.
According to Segway Robotics, Loomo Delivery leads to cost savings and more reliable parcel delivery for enterprises. The robot is equipped with a touchscreen and has a cloud-based navigation system that operates over both Wi-Fi and 4G. The drawers of the device are interchangeable, have a capacity of seventy liters and can bear a weight of fifty kilograms. The robot’s battery lasts about eight hours, after which the Loomo Delivery automatically returns to its charging station. Nothing is known about price and availability yet.
